Reparations

Definition

Proposed or actual forms of redress for historical injustice, such as payments, apologies, restitution of cultural objects or institutional programmes. The subject is debated and takes many forms. When the British Empire abolished slavery, University College London's Legacies of British Slavery project notes that £20 million in compensation was paid by British taxpayers to slave owners, and not to the enslaved.
